Toshiba has announced that they will be jettison the plan to make tablets for the Windows RT. Instead, they will be focusing on building tabs for the Windows 8 OS. The Windows RT tabs are expected to be cheaper and will be running on ARM-based processors. The Windows 8 based tablets and computers will be running on the x86-based chips.
The reason they gave behind their change of heart was that there were component delays. They said this has made it impossible for them to launch the devices on time. However, they said that they will be looking into the possibility of making the Windows RT available in the future.
This means they have not completely ruled out the making of Windows RT based Tablets. There is however another angle to this as it may be that Toshiba is using this to express their displeasure with Microsoft for releasing Windows RT and Window 8 tablets under their name. This is the reason why Acer is upset with Microsoft and they might just be following suit.
It may be that they felt they would not be able to compete as aggressively as they would want to with Microsoft.
