Apple Still The King Of Theatrics ? Sept. 12 : The Big Show !

(Before It's News)

The story of the smartphone industry is taking twists and turns as the market segment makes its way into being the most controversial, influential and lucrative segment. The players are some of the biggest companies in the world. The market share battles and patent disputes are the most ferocious and disastrous ever. The repercussions are the most persisting and the consequences are colossal. Apple has taken the center stage in the hoopla and amongst the cross fire that ensues between the giants and still maintains to thrill the customers with its theatrics. Steve Jobs’ successor Tim Cook is no lesser a showman when it comes to feeding the curiosity of the customer and utilize the hype to supplement the launch of its products.

Apple has done it all to claim the stronghold in the market. It has a market share of more than half in the smartphone and tablet segment, it recently won a mammoth lawsuit against its prime competitor, it is on-course to settle the threat of Google’s Motorola and now, after a long wait, Apple has set the stage for a special event on 12th Sept. Expectations soar high of the Apple fans and aficionados who have been waiting for the iPhone 5 since October 2011. The event will take place at San Francisco’s Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, the preferred venue for the unveiling of past products such as the iPad.

The typically cryptic invitation said “It’s almost here“, sported a number 12, corresponding to the date of the event and cast a large shadow of the number 5. A slight upset in the US market to Apple’s iPhone 4S has caused it to slid below Samsung’s Galaxy s3; but the California court ruling which handed $1 billion to Apple and a major setback to the credibility of Google’s Android and Samsung’s Galaxy series of tablets and smartphones, Apple took two major steps to quell competition and establish itself again in the market. It asked for a ban on Samsung’s products, and it announced the date for a special event (which could mean iPhone 5) right before the holiday season starts and the regular US customer has just come out of its 5 month spending slumber (August was the month that average spending in the US increased .28%).

The courtroom drama was the precursor to a lot of outside the court drama and planning. After Android was partially branded an infringement on Apple, the whole act sparsely opened up the market for new OSes to take control. Nokia and Microsoft have come out with new Windows 8 based phones shortly. This will be a last ditch attempt for Nokia, who once used to be the king of the mobile phone market to garner attention from the customer for its product (it has registered losses in billions and has been compelled to lay off and cut down research spending). Microsoft too will look to establish its windows phone OS as a solid third competitor after iOS and Android. There is news of even HTC sending out invitations for a special event in September.

The prophecy will be fulfilled and the dance of powers in the smartphone market will culminate into one of the players emerging as the winner, which is most likely Apple, but there is still hope for Nokia and Microsoft if they can make their phone stand out more than its competition. Samsung will come out with its windows based phone too sometime in September. It is finally the time for the regular consumer to look beyond the carnage of the patent battles and look forward to a holiday season blossoming with newer technology and devices.
