First Batch of Windows RT Tablets to be Released This Year

In the next few months, people will be introduced with the latest Microsoft Windows RT tablets. Since most of you might not heard of what exactly is an RT tablet, this article aims to give you an overview of what it is and what to expect from computer manufacturers in keeping up with this latest innovation.

A Windows RT tablet is designed to be the “lite” counterpart of a Windows 8 computer. Instead of featuring a processor from Intel, the RT tablet would run on an ARM processor, which is said to use energy more efficiently and it is more affordable. Of course, the tablet would run using the Metro Interface of Microsoft’s Windows 8.

In addition, this tablet would feature a Desktop mode. However, it should be noted that this mode will only be limited to software developed exclusively by Microsoft. The software would be pre-installed on the device, which would include the newly optimized-for-Windows 8-touchscreen-feature Microsoft office applications namely OneNote, Powerpoint, Excel and PowerPoint.

Probably the most anticipated among the RT tablets, that would be released this year and in the early months of 2013, is Microsoft’s own Surface RT tablet. Set to be released on the 26th of October, the tablet would determine the future of any Windows tablet. Surface would have a selling price of $499 for its 32GB of storage version.

If you want the Touch Cover (the RT tablet designed keyboard) to come with it, it will cost you a hundred dollars more. In addition the Surface’s 64GB storage version with the Touch cover would sell at $699. Also, you can purchase the keyboard separately at a retail price of $120.

The following would be the other Windows RT Tablets that would be released towards the end of 2012.

XPS 10

Dell’s venture into the RT tablet niche would be spearheaded by Dell XPS 10. The computer technology company is yet to announce the price for their version of the tablet but industry pricing experts are expecting it to be a bit expensive. Of course, a lot of them are hoping that it would be reasonable enough, especially that this is an introductory type of a tablet. Additionally, the XPS 10 would have a CPU from ARM (the exact specification is yet to be confirmed by Dell as well) and would feature a touch-pad for its keyboard, USB slots and a MicroSD aperture.

Ideal Pad Yoga 11

While the prices for the other RT tablets coming out this year have not been confirmed by their respective manufacturers, you can consider the Lenovo version the most expensive. It will sell at $799. Industry experts are saying that this price could have been the effect of Lenovo coming up with an design innovation for the Ideal Pad Yoga 11. This is its keyboard that you will need to flip from under the tablet itself so you can use it. It is amusing how others are relating this feature to the name of the tablet.

Vivo Tab RT

Asus’ RT tablet is priced to stand in the middle of the Surface and Yoga 11. The Vivo Tab’s selling price would be $599 at its initial release. It will sport a screen resolution of 1366 by 768 and a CPU from NVIDIA, the Tegra 3. Unfortunately, prospective buyers would have to purchase the dock for its keyboard directly from the Asus. This is optional but things may change for the better if Asus would really want the Vivo Tab to be its landmark tablet in the Windows RT line of business.

Ativ Tab

Of course, Samsung will not allow itself to be left behind and would soon try to make the company’s fans fall head-over-heels over its RT Tablet, the Ativ Tab. This tablet would run on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon. To be more specific, it will be the S4 Play version and APQ8060A model. The tablet would also feature a dual camera and 4G LTE support. The 4G LTE network support would come from AT&T.

Surface

Since Microsoft Surface would be the first tablet that would be released, the expectations for it are high. So far, experts who had a first-hand experience of the said tablet have mixed impressions about the Surface inspite of its many features and quite a high level of productivity.

Of course, how it will work for you is subjective. At least, for now, you know that there are many manufacturers that are eyeing on producing the Windows RT tablet. Maybe it will also help, inspite of what others think about Microsoft Surface this early, if everyone hopes that it will succeed in its aim. If that happens, consumers can expect more from manufacturers. The more RT tablets demand there is, the more likely it is for companies to come up with competitive products. In turn, the competition would usher more affordable tablets that are also high in quality.
