(Before It's News)

Imagine cars wired with Ethernet. Yes, that is exactly what Hyundai and Broadcom are planning to make. You might be tempted to think of fast internet hotspots for surfing but this is not what they are creating. They are planning to rig vehicles with Ethernet cables with speeds of up to 100Mbps which might be improved later to 1Gps. They have named their new technology as BroadR-Reach which shall use a pair of unshielded wire. In this new technology, the two companies will unify disparate systems into a single network. This is a departure from tradition where safety systems are built on multiple in-car networks.

Hyundai Cars

Hyundai becomes the second car maker to announce that its cars will have the new technology; this is after joining with Broadcom’s standard group together with other car manufactures. The company is yet to announce its models that will be fitted with Ethernet.
