Google announces the launch of the new Chromebook
It does not seem that long ago when Google launched the first series of Chromebooks and now there is another version available. It is the version from Samsung and it looks pretty smart too, with a nice looking silver finish and it is thin and light too. The Chromebook is not going to be for everyone, because it requires a constant wireless connection to access the Google Chrome features, but for anyone living in a built up area this is a good and it has to be said cheap way of getting a decent laptop with prices starting from $250 in the states and £230 in the UK.
The new Chromebook comes with a 11.6 inch HD 1080p capable display with a 1366 x 768 of pixel resolution and there is a handy built in VGA web camera. Being a Chromebook this laptop will be running on the Chrome operating system and it is powered by the dual core A15-based Samsung Exynos 5 Dual (5250) SoC processor. There is a memory of just 2 GB of RAM and there is 16 GB of built-in flash memory for storage purposes. When it comes to communications the Chromebook is Bluetooth 3.0 Compatible, comes with a built-in dual band Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n and there is an optional 3G modem available too.
Other features include the 100 GB Google Drive Cloud Storage with Solid State Drive, an HDMI Port, a super fast connecting USB 3.0 port, a standard USB 2.0 port, combo headphone & mic jack, a SD card slot and naturally there is the full size Chrome keyboard. As for the size, the Chromebook is only 17.5 mm (0.8 inches) thick and weighs just 1.1 kilos (2.5 pounds) with the battery pack in place, which according to Samsung will provide the user with over 6.5 hours of battery power.
According to the Google Chrome Blog, this new Samsung Chromebook will cost from $249 in the US and from £229 in the UK, looks like a raw deal for the brits!
