How To Use YouTube App for iOS 6

How To Use YouTube App for iOS 6

If you have an iPhone 5 or the older version upgraded to the iOS 6, that means you do not have the pre-installed app of YouTube. However, Google has released a new version of the app, which features ten thousand more videos as well as an improved design and function, to work on your iPhone or even on your iPod Touch.

Since Apple and Google seemed to have severed their ties in terms of providing users a video-sharing app, you may have gained more access to copyrighted videos but you will be exposed to ads running on a certain videos while you are watching it. Some of those who are now using the app may be happy that they were served an ad only after watching a number of videos. But of course, anyone can expect that to increase in frequency as days go by or until everything settles in.

If you have not downloaded it yet but soon will for the probable lack of similar reliable apps, here is a quick top on using the YouTube app for iOS 6:

Signing In to YouTube

As soon as you are done installing the app, do not expect the same TV icon to appear on your home screen like it does with the old app. The icon has been replaced with the YouTube logo. However, a very simple icon may be disregarded instantly, as soon as you run the app itself. YouTube app for iOS 6 is now sporting a changed look and if you want the menu to show-up, simply tap on the button found on the top and then left of the screen. Doing this would have the menu slide out from the side to sign in to your account.

Removing a Channel

To check all the channels you are subscribed to as well as the different YouTube categories, simply go to the settings and if you want a channel to be removed, you can do this by opening the channel and tapping on the checkmark button that is colored green, found at the top of screen. Doing this would unsubscribe you from that channel.

Searching for a Video

If you want to search for a particular video, you can access the search screen by selecting the search button at the top and then at the right corner of the screen. The search feature of the app has an auto-complete action, so there would be a lot of times where you would not need to type in a lot of keywords or the title of the video itself.

Setting your Home Feeds

With the latest app, you can set your Home Feeds two ways. Although Home Feeds can easily be set from the settings menu easily, you may initially find the terms used for the options inaccurate and unclear. The first option is Highlights, where videos are added as a recommendation from Google, based on what you have been viewing, and the second option is Uploads Only, where your Home Feeds would show videos that are uploaded in the channels that you are subscribed to.

Viewing a Video

When you want to view a video with a wider angle or in full, you simply have to move the device to change its orientation into a landscape mode. However, if you want to change its orientation to reveal all the video suggestions, comments and the video details, move your device to position it lengthwise, and the screen would change to portrait mode.

Liking and Sharing a Video

You can easily access the thumbs-down and thumbs-up buttons when you are on a full-screen mode by tapping on the screen once. You will also find that your options to share a specific video have increased to include the following: Google+, Twitter, FaceBook, Email, Message and Clipboard.

Other Video Options

Other video options that you will find with the new YouTube app are Flag (as inappropriate), Add to Playlist, Add to Favorites and Add to Watch Later. You can find the videos added to your favorites, playlist or watch later videos by tapping on your username at the top of the screen from the slide-out menu.

Uploading a Video

Unfortunately, you cannot upload a video from your local phone storage within the app but you can always share any of your videos to YouTube users by using the Photo apps.

Also, the new YouTube app is not universal and does not support iPad. However, iPad can expect a version for their device in the coming months as announced by YouTube executives.

Apparently, Apple is doing a lot of work in terms of disintegrating Google from its line of products. Fortunately for users, this has prompted Google and YouTube in particular to come up with better apps that serve more videos and have better functions without being heavily dependent on Apple.
