Infinitec Android Pocket TV available to pre-order
Infinitec’s game changing Pocket TV puts Android on your HDTV, makes everything Smart
Pocket TV is a fantastic product that shot to fame on crowd funding site Kickstarter. Having attained huge backing and smashing the target funding, the finished product is soon to be available; we are currently expecting stock in November.
The idea is simple – put Android 4.0 ICS into a tiny portable computer and add a full size HDMI port on it so it can be attached to any HDMI equipped monitor. The result is what you see in these pictures, a device no bigger than a USB memory stick that you can plug directly into an HDTV or HD monitor and display a full Android environment.
Infinitec have installed Android 4.0 ICS on Pocket TV to date – by launch that the units may be running 4.1 Jelly Bean. If not they will be upgradeable when an upgrade is available.
Pocket TV doesn’t have phone functionality, much like the WiFi only Android tablets that are currently available and this is what Pocket TV essentially turns your TV in to. Imagine a 50 inch Android tablet in your living room! (if you have a TV that big of course) Once plugged in you have access to everything available on a standard Android environment – web browsing, video streaming, music playback, social media, news, gaming, maps and access to the Google Play store to install any app of your choosing.
Clove will be selling the Premium version of Pocket TV that comes bundled with the Air Remote (pictured). This high tech accessory has a full QWERTY keyboard for text entry when controlling Pocket TV and also includes a gyroscopic sensor to move the cursor on screen (similar to a Nintendo Wii controller). The Google Remote TV app (from Google Play or Apple App Store ) can also be installed on your personal Android device or iPhone to control Pocket TV with your smartphone.
Pocket TV is portable by nature so you can take it with you wherever you go; home, work, to a friend’s house, in a hotel room or on holiday. At work you could plug Pocket TV into a projector, browse to your DropBox account and run your presentation… Bring Pocket TV to a friend’s and enjoy some big screen competitive gaming… Attach a web cam via the USB port and Skype video call on your TV from the comfort of your sofa… the possibilities are mind boggling!
A microSD card slot is also included so you can add up to 32GB of extra storage. A USB port is on the side too so you can attach an external hard drive, mouse, keyboard, web cam or any other supported USB peripheral.
