We here at AndroidSPIN like to support good causes and the month of Movember is soon upon us. Movember? Yup I said Movember, it’s were men and women all around the world join together in the month of November to grow out there Mo’s and fake Mo’s for a good cause. This will personally be my second year in supporting ”vital awareness” and fund raise for “men’s health issues, specifically prostate and testicular cancer initiatives.”

This year however my Movember campaign has hit closer to home than I ever expected. This year my Father was diagnosed with stage 2 Colon Cancer and has started his fight to become Cancer free. It has been a tough and emotional road. That being said I’m making it my Mission to let people know the need to get checked out by your primary care giver for Prostate , Testicular, and other Cancers . As men we some times think we are unstoppable and invincible, but sadly by the time many finally agree to get checked out and tested it’s to late.

So how can you get involved? I’m glad you asked

Once registered at www.movember.com, men start Movember 1st clean-shaven. For the rest of the month, these selfless and generous men, known as Mo Bros, groom, trim and wax their way into the annals of fine moustachery. Supported by the women in their lives, Mo Sistas, Movember Mo Bros raise funds by seeking out sponsorship for their Mo-growing efforts.

Mo Bros effectively become walking, talking billboards for the 30 days of November. Through their actions and words they raise awareness by prompting private and public conversation around the often ignored issue of men’s health.

At the end of the month, Mo Bros and Mo Sistas celebrate their gallantry and valor by either throwing their own Movember party or attending one of the infamous Gala Partés held around the world by Movember, for Movember.”

And where exactly dose all the money go you ask

82.3% Allocated to Programs
Of the funds raised in the US, 82.3% has been committed to programs supporting prostate and testicular cancer initiatives. 67.2% was donated to Movember’s men’s health partners, the Prostate Cancer Foundation (37.3%) and LIVESTRONGFoundation (29.9%), 15.1% has been committed to programs run by the Movember Foundation.

Movember also has an official android app to help you tack your donations and how much you have fun raised. It also allows you to view the leader boards of who has fund-raised the most so far. Our goal is to be on the top and show people how much impact the Android community can have across the globe.

We joined Movember to help spread the word and raise some money for something that isn’t talked about nearly enough. Sure, the Movember guys have a bunch of great prizes and offerings on the table for participants to potentially win, but that is not why we are getting involved. It is also not why we think you all should get involved. We do know that extra incentive never hurts. So we are taking things up one small level for those of you that join our Movember team.

Here is the deal. Our AndroidSPIN Mo Bros page is live and available for all who wish to join. It is simple to register and simple to get involved. The more the merrier. There will be a number of AndroidSPIN team members actively involved in Movemeber and we will be pushing for people to make small donations. To sweeten the pot and get our Android friends involved a bit more, we have a special prize lined up. The Mo Bro team member that raises the most funds for the month will have their choice of a Phorus Audio Speaker or Receiver. Free and clear, shipped to your doorstep by Phorus. Pretty sweet deal right. All you have to do is join our Mo Bros team, shave on the 1st and make it 30 days growing out a mustache while recruiting others and getting donations. It is a double win really.
