(Before It's News)

Online classifieds portal Quikr appears to be have grown since it was rebranded. The site owned & operated by Quikr Mauritius Holding Pvt. Ltd currently claims to have upwards of 24 Million unique subscribers, out of which 6 Million are mobile-only users.

Quikr propagates its image as a free classifieds web-portal. But then, how does it earn? Quikr works on three independent levels reveals Pranay Chulet, Co-founder and CEO, “Our revenue channels are advertising, lead generation and premium listings and we want to stay focused on them,” What this means is the site slightly resembles LinkedIn in terms of revenue streams. Even LinkedIn offers free & premium listing. Additionally, the site also offers regional hiring solutions. These combined methods of multiple revenue streams ensures that the site has a secured future & enjoys wider adoption shares Chulet, “Five months ago, the firm had around 17 million unique users so it has added roughly 1.4 million users a month since then”.

The site has certainly paid a lot of attention to the growing mobile space as well. Its free Android App supports multiple image uploads & instant listing services too. Such innovations has enjoyed patronage of 6 Million people who access Quikr from their smartphones. With a funding round in May, the web-company secured US$ 32 Million from Warburg Pincus, Matrix Partners India & Norwest Venture Partners. Surprisingly, even e-bidding site eBay had participated in the Series E round. Despite the claim of popularity, its main rival Olx.in has managed a very hefty lead of 500,000 downloads on the Android market & has an iOS app as well.

The free online classifieds section seems to be a hot spot. In fact some companies are even going extremely regional & coming up with classifieds suited just for a particular state or region. Apparently, these tactics allows them to have a extensive reach with multiple traders within the region. Having a strong bond with the local companies eventually allows smother & faster delivery without having to setup local warehouses.

Do such sites inspire confidence or would you rather rely on other popular e-commerce websites to buy stuff online?
