Big Story Weather from November 15: The majority of the country enjoyed high pressure which brought fair weather conditions to these areas. However, there was a weak frontal boundary that pushed through the Great Lakes region. Also, a new frontal system began to impact the West Coast with coastal rains and mountain snows.
Weather Outlook for November 16: High pressure over the Great Lakes will bring partly cloudy skies to the area. This will also bring nice weather to the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions. High pressure over the Rockies will bring partly cloudy skies from the Plains back into the Rockies. A weak area of convergence will develop over Southern Florida bringing with it some showers to the region. The West Coast will see a warm front begin to push into the region increasing clouds and bringing some showers to the coastal area along with mountain snows. Below is the weather for a few select cities.

International Weather Outlook for November 16: High pressure to the east of Japan will bring partly cloudy skies back to the region. High pressure over Eastern China will bring partly cloudy skies and this will extend into the Koreas and will limit the convection along the monsoonal trough. Low pressure moving through Northeast Europe will bring with it some snow to the region. Low pressure over England will bring scattered showers and also extensive cloud cover to Western Europe. High pressure will bring partly cloudy skies to the tip of South America. Areas of low pressure will move through central Africa bringing showers to the region. A weak area of high pressure will bring partly cloudy skies to Western Australia, while a frontal boundary will bring showers to the Eastern portion of the region. Here is the forecast for a few select international cities.
Sasebo Japan: Partly Cloudy with a low near 12C.
Manila Philippines: Partly Cloudy with a low near 22C.
Phuket Thailand: Mostly Cloudy with a low near 27C.
Madrid Spain: Partly Cloudy with a low near 12C.
Sydney Australia: Mostly Cloudy with showers and a low near 21C.
November 16, 2012 Storm Tracker Update:
Atlantic Basin: Low pressure off the coast of Africa will move towards the Cape Verde Islands bringing strong winds and showers. Another area of low pressure is beginning to move into Eastern Europe which will bring cloudy skies and showers to the region, while a third low pressure is moving off the East coast of the United States and into Iceland.
Russia: A strong area of low pressure is moving through the central part of the country bringing with it showers and snow to the region near Moscow.
Eastern Pacific: There is one area of low pressure that is moving out of the Gulf of Alaska and towards the Pacific Coastline of Canada. This will bring increased seas along with showers to the region. Another low pressure system is moving in from the Southwest towards Northern California. This area of low pressure will bring showers and mountain snows to the West Coast of the United States. Another low pressure is moving just east of Hawaii. This low pressure is associated with the Sub-tropical jet and will push towards the West Coast.
Central Pacific: All is quiet in this region this morning.
Western Pacific: An area of low pressure is to the Northeast of Japan and will continue to make its way towards the Gulf of Alaska over the next few days. Another area of convection has developed just west of the Philippines and this region will move westward towards Southeast Asian bringing with is strong winds and heavier rains over the next 24hrs to places like Vietnam.
South Indian Ocean: An area of low pressure is found in the Bay of Bengal this morning just to the west of India. This area of low pressure will move southwestward away from land and should not be any threat other than a marine interest.
Southern Hemisphere: No major weather features in this region this morning.
Five Day Storm Index Outlook for November 16-20:
Buffalo NY: The next five days will be influenced by high pressure allowing for no major impacts.
Tampa FL: A few showers today followed by high pressure leaving the region with no impacts forecasted for the next five days.
Dallas TX: A nice start to the period with no impacts forecasted. A weak upper level system may bring a slight impact to the region on the 19th. Then back to no impacts for the 20th.
Billings MT: The period will start out with no impacts followed by a chance of slight impacts on the 19th.
Portland OR: A cloudy day today with no impacts expected. However, as the warm front moves into the region, it will bring slight impacts for the remainder of the period with moderate showers in the region.
Climate Watch for November 11-15:
Buffalo NY: The period started with temps around 20-21 degrees above normal followed by a cold front which brought temps back to around 1-8 degrees below average.
Tampa FL: The period started with temps around 2-4 degrees above average and then a frontal boundary moved through bringing temps down to around 2-5 degrees below average.
Dallas TX: The period started about 6 degrees above average followed by a strong cold front which brought temps to around 2-12 degrees below average with a slow warming towards the end of the period.
Billings MT: The period started with temps around 10-21 degrees below average followed by a slight warming trend with temps rising to around 2-6 degrees above average.
Portland OR: Temps started the period around 1-7 degrees below average and then the arrival of a warm front has brought temps up to around 1-4 degrees above average.
Major Weather Impacts Discussion for November 16, 2012:
Day 1-3: High pressure along the East Coast and back into the Great Lakes along with the Southeast and Gulf Coast will bring partly cloudy skies to this region with a few showers found along a boundary in Southern Florida. High pressure over the Rockies will bring nice weather to the region and also the Southwest. A warm front will push warm air and moisture northward along the West Coast today.
Day 4-7: Moderate rains along the Pacific Northwest along with mountain snow will start the period. The middle of this period will have a low move into Alberta Canada while low pressure will begin to develop off the Southeast coast. The rest of the country will enjoy tranquil weather. The remainder of this period will be fairly tranquil with most of the weather found along the West Coast and then the low off the East coast.
Day 8-12: The period will start with a weak high pressure center over the East Coast while a weak frontal boundary will extend through the Ohio River Valley back towards the Southwest. This system will be limited on moisture due to the ridge still in place over the Gulf of Mexico. A strong area of high pressure will begin to build in over the Northern Plains, while a 998mb low will begin to push on shore over the Pacific Northwest. The middle of this period will be impacted with a low pressure over the Northeast along with a strong area of high pressure building in over the Northern Plains. A potential Gulf Low may start to form off the coast of Texas. Another area of low pressure will be moving through the Eastern Rockies during this time period. The end of this period will have an area of low pressure over the Northeast along with along with a blocking high in the Mid-Atlantic which will push the next low pressure area northward into the Great Lakes. Another strong high pressure center will push out of the Canadian Plains towards the southeast. A 974mb low will be making its way towards the Canadian West Coast and the associated frontal boundaries will impact the Pacific Northwest.
Day 13-15: The Thanksgiving holiday will be marked with a weak area of high pressure off the East Coast while a strong low pressure will be in the Northeast all the way back into Texas we could be dealing with some strong thunderstorms along with heavy rain in the southern portion of the front while the Northern portion will see cold rains and some snows in the Great Lakes. The middle of this period will be impacted with a strong low pressure up the East coast bringing areas of heavy snow, heavy rains and strong winds. There is the possibility that the light snow will make it all the way down into northern Mississippi and Alabama as a very strong cold high pressure area begins to move into the region. High pressure will be found along the West Coast. The period will end with yet another strong area of low pressure moving into the Southeast with plenty of rain and thunderstorms for the Gulf Coast.

Friday: Partly Cloudy and cool with a high near 50F. Winds will be Southeast around 5-10mph as overnight lows fall to around 31F.
Saturday: Partly Cloudy and warmer with a high near 57F. Winds will increase from the Southeast around 15-20mph and overnight lows will fall to around 34F.
Sunday: Partly Cloudy and mild with a high near 55F. Winds will be from the Southeast around 20-25mph with a low near 35F.
Monday: Partly Cloudy and warmer with a high near 59F. Winds from the Southwest around 10-15mph as overnight lows fall to around 32F.
Tuesday: Partly Cloudy and mild with a high near 58F. Winds from the Northwest around 5-10mph as low temps fall to around 33F.

Question: What kind of cloud is fog?
Answer: Fog is defined as a Stratus cloud lying on the ground. The stratus clouds form when the winds are light and when we have warmer air move in over top of a colder surface. It is very common to see this fog along waterways such as beaches, especially during the early fall when we get these transitioning temps from one day being cold the next day being warm. There is also a type of fog known as Advection Fog. This type of fog is best identified after precipitation hits the area and then all the sudden it warms up rapidly allowing for the colder surface to release the moisture back into the atmosphere.

Green Energy Weather Report for November 16:
Wave Energy: The Pacific Northwest has an approaching frontal boundary which will bring an increase in wave action to the region. Also a frontal boundary pushing off the Southeast coast will bring an increase to seas in the region making for some good wave energy.
Solar Energy: High pressure over the Great Lakes will make the region good for solar energy. This will also push into the Northeast creating some good solar energy. The Southeast and Gulf Coast will see a nice solar energy day as well and the high over the Rockiest will make this region and the Southwest enjoy some good solar energy making today.
Wind Energy: The best wind energy today will come from the frontal boundary moving into the West Coast.
Hydro-Energy: One small location in Southern Florida will be the best location for hydro energy today as the moderate rains fall through Southern Florida.
November 16 Weather and Your Wallet (Austin TX):
Dining: This morning will be a tad bit cold so make sure to bundle up before heading out to get a bite to eat. Also this evening the cold air will be back in place.
Transportation: A nice day to walk to work or take the local bus routes and enjoy a cool but dry day.
Shopping: This morning and evening the temps will be fairly cold so make sure to bundle up before heading out to enjoy some shopping.
Electricity: Expect to need the heater this morning to start the day and then again this evening as the cold air builds back in to the region. Total HDD’s for today will be around 10.
Agriculture: A nice day to get some of that garden work done or cleanup around the house and the farm today as it will be partly cloudy and cool.
Construction: No major impacts for this area, just make sure to bundle up as the morning starts out a little bit cold and then this evening once the sun sets expect to see more cold weather.
Outdoor Venues: Heading out the door this morning over into the evening hours make sure to bundle up as the winds are going to be stronger and also the temps will be down to near freezing this will create a very chilly night.
