Crytek, the developers behind Crysis series of FPS games and the famous Cryengine, have revealed that they plan on creating a radical Crysis game after next years Crysis 3. CEO of the company, Cevat Yerli, has told eurogamer in an interview that Crysis 3 will mark the end of the current story line that started with the original Crysis game. They plan on further continuing the series, but the next game after Crysis 3 will not be titled Crysis 4.
Yerli further added that the first game’s protagonist ‘Prophet’ started the journey with
‘Psycho’ and ‘Jester’ among others and the development team is going to bring them together once more in Crysis 3 to end the trilogy. The story arc of Prophet will be finalized and end in a dramatic fashion.
Yerli also said that they are very excited about the DNA of Crysis and of the franchise. There can be literally tons of titles out there within the franchise. Unlike Far Cry, this time around we feel very flexible about Crysis.
In the same interview Cevat admitted that they have still not started pre-production on the next game in the series. H said, “Normally in this time right now we would already have pre-production going on, but because we want to make this something much more radical and new we are looking at it as a bit more of a long term thing. It’s too early to talk about it for these reasons.”
It is not clear if Crytek will once again partner with EA for the next Crysis game after Crysis 3. It seems that the next Crysis game will be a Free to play title, since Crytek in the past has made it clear that after Crytek’s current obligations are complete, including Crysis 3 and Homefront 2 for THQ, it will only make F2P games.
No further information about the next Crysis game was unveiled in the interview.
