(Before It's News)

Google sure has made search easy and empowering. In fact, search is now synonymous with Google, with many people often making the statement, ‘If you can’t find it, just Google it!’

While we all definitely love Google for its functionality, we also adore it for how it decorates and doodles its logo. It is not an uncommon practise to visit the Google page everyday to see what’s new with their logo this time round. Be it the pac-man or the interactive Christmas doodle, the world just cannot get enough of these doodles.

From time-to-time, Google invites the public to design a doodle for a particular occasion. A month back, Google India launched its Doodle4Google 2012 contest. The theme of the contest, which is open to school students, is “Unity in Diversity”. For the purpose of elimination and fair judging, the students were divided into three groups – Group 1 consisting of students from class 1 to 3; Group 2 consisting of students from class 4 to 6; Group 4 consisting of students from class 7 to 10.

Boman Irani and political cartoonist Ajit Ninan went through the initial 2lakh+ entries and selected  13 Finalists. The doodles of these finalists have now been posted online on http://www.google.co.in/doodle4google/ where people can  vote for their favourite doodles. An entry from each group with the highest votes will then be judged by the jury and Google Doodler Dennis Hwang and a winner will be selected. The winner will make it to the Google page on children’s day, 14th November.

One of the finalists.

Last year too, Google India ran the Doodle4Google contest and the theme for the same was ‘India’s biggest contribution to the world’.

I think these contests are fun and an adoring way of connecting with the masses (present and future users of Google) and also of building a brand. On that not, check today’s Google Doodle. It is apt, though it could have been a tad bit more Dracula-ish.
