Approximately 4 months after resigning from his post as the President of Reliance Entertainment, Rajesh Sawhney has delivered what he promised in his resignation summary. With his Global SuperAngels Forum poised to fund and expose the Indian startups at global scales, Rajesh Sawhney has seen to it that these budding startups get the due grooming which is necessitated for their sustenance. Hence the sister organ of Global SuperAngels Forum, GSF Accelerator has gone ahead and inducted 15 startups: 5 each from Delhi-NCR, Mumbai & Bengaluru, with an initial funding of $28,000 – after reviewing 400 startups allegedly.
Sawhney had quit from his post at Reliance citing his desire to focus on investing in and grooming startups in India. He had bolstered the entire digital entertainment wing at Reliance since he joined in 2005. Prior to that, he was the man behind the indiatimes.com portal and the Mobile Value Added Service 8888 for The Times of India Group. His 6 years with Times of India, and the subsequent 7 years in Reliance – have enabled him with a wide bandwidth of foresight as an investor.
Said to have begun on 15 Oct, 2012 – the GSF Accelerator program will groom and train the 15 startups, by subjecting them to multiple workshops and interactions with noted international entrepreneurs spanning over 7 weeks. These budding companies also stand to pitch themselves at VCs, CEOs and other angel investments firms that are scheduled to attend the GSF2012 event next month. Apart from the initial funding received, the startups also stand a chance to receive $3 million in seed funding.
GSF is the quintessential consortium for India, with over 30 digital tech firm founders and investors worldwide; along with partnerships and inclusive associations with 500 Startups from Silicon Valley, Ruvento of Singapore and Seedcamp from Europe. Amidst the dearth of proper funding and entrepreneurship grooming agencies, it seems Rajesh Sawhney has finally wrenched together a proper consortium which is dedicated to re-engineering the inept approach most startups have taken in India. Time may have finally come to witness the boom of entrepreneurship in India!
