[Op-Ed] Is Google the Cutting Edge of Broken Technology?

(Before It's News)

This post comes from my own and several other users’ frustrations who are plagued with Google services failing on a daily basis.

Google seems more concerned with pushing out new OS versions than they are fixing existing problems for users. There’s still many problems with its services without any support. Forget live support, just from emails, there’s no feedback from the Google support teamYou can only reach them if you want to BUY something. I have tried to reach Google support for over two weeks now. I have yet to hear back from them. I have tried every method listed to contact Google or to report an issue, I’ve even gone as far as posting on their support forums.

Their strive to stay on the cutting edge of broken technology is getting very annoying and frustrating. It seems that every day, one or more service that we rely on in daily life and work randomly fails, oftentimes at the important and inconvenient times.

Check out this handful of #fail…

WiFi Image Uploading
Many users have issues uploading Google web albums, instant uploads, or even post pictures in Google+ Messenger while on WiFi, this seems to be a common and widely known issue.

+1 Button
Any Site Admin knows how important the +1 button is, not only for their site and posts, but also for Google Ranking. For the last month or more, Google services have been a total nightmare. Notice in the following image the +1 failed, but if you click on the error message it will blame the site for this error and ask you to notify the Site Admin.

Gallery Inconsistencies
Now like I said, these problems affect random users at different times. Some may not be affected at all. Below is one of my own maddening examples. I can post pictures to Google Messenger from instant upload gallery just fine on WiFi (not that instant upload works over WiFi for me anyway), yet if I try to post from my camera gallery, I get the following every time:

Email
Here is yet another example of a Google experience gone bad:

SD Cards
Google is leading away from external memory support (SD), which will force users to use unreliable cloud services. Google removed external SD support on Nexus devices; many users still can’t use cloud services without running up their carrier bills and/or it takes forever. Remember how I said I cannot upload albums via WiFi? Well, it has taken me three weeks to finally successfully upload my pictures to Picasa from my device.

Fragmentation and service failure will continue to drive users to other devices and carriers. We have all seen how well the “Handset Alliance” has worked out so far.. I will leave that for another post (ER…RANT).

I miss the good old days when Google was rock solid and reliable. Instead, I feel they are sacrificing stability, in a race to be the “cutting edge”. Patent wars maybe the case for this or maybe just flat-out greed. Either way, each day goes by that I cannot use the services I purchased my devices for is another day I am closer to dropping Android all together. This saddens my heart to say this because I have been an Android “fanboy” since the day the G1 came out.

I know many will not agree with this post or my statements, but there are more facts and examples than there are fixes. Us 1% rooted users have to rely on third parties to fix or improve Google’s products.

Feel free to chime in and leave a comment, I would love to hear what the feelings of the masses are.
