Rediff has launched for the newly launched Windows 8. In a bid to improve the news reading experience online, Rediff launched the Realtime News Search which will be composed of real time news updates, collected from all around the world, with a sidebar that would show the topmost trending news reports in short.
Rediff launched the special Realtime News App for Android users in the third week of September this year. The launch of the app for Windows 8 comes at a time when the new OS has been making enough attempts altogether to gather consumer interest, which includes teaming up with movie promotional campaigns.
According to Rediff, the initiative is to catch a growing market in its infancy and the company feels that it is time to brace the business for the inevitable transpiration of increased dependence on mobiles, handhelds, 3g mobility, broadband and the thirst for instant feed of info in the coming days.
Rediff’s Realtime News App is composed of 6 categories broadly, and a sidebar that shows the trending news in all categories. The news reports are collected from, apparently, over 35,000 news sources and agencies. The pictures and images that are fed are also claimed to be near-to-real time updates as they are being uploaded directly from the point of emergence (i.e. from the photographers in the event spots). The search has the predictive search and query extrapolation techniques, which we see in Google search, where the queries of the users are predicted and displayed before they user completes typing.
The app for Windows 8 is designed to suit, emulate and pay tribute to the design theme of Windows 8; as it incorporates the Windows style tiles for each category of news.
News categories being offered are Top News, World News, Entertainment, Business, Cricket, and Sports. The app also has in-built system customization that allows you to choose between refreshing/updating the news feed manually or automatically (time periods of 3 hours, 6 hours or once in a day). All news link are however, directly back-linked and routed to the Rediff website (or mobile site). There are also the customary options of sharing the news via Facebook, Twitter, etc. One interesting addition to that list is Whatsapp.
If you have Windows 8, take this app for a spin and let us know what you think.
