Samsung and Apple are far from friends at this point. Each side hates the other with a (growing) passion. But alas, Apple can’t completely break away from Samsung’s touch. You see, Samsung still makes parts for Apple’s iDevices. While the list of parts made by Samsung included a wide range of things, the most prominent has now shrunk down to the A-model processor inside of iPhones, iPads and iPod Touches.
According to Korea’s “Chosun lobo”, however, it appears Samsung is now twisting the knife on its close frenemy by raising prices on the aforementioned processor line by as much as 20%. Apple, left without any real alternatives in terms of quality, performance or production volume potential, has apparently agreed to the price hike.
For Apple, the price hike is a bitter pill to swallow. They are not simply spending more money on their iPod/iPhone/iPad manufacturing and in turn eating into profits, they’re arming their biggest enemy now with more cash that can be used against them in legal skirmishes.
While a direct reason for the pricing hasn’t been revealed, it is believed that a re-tooled Samsung plant in Austin, Texas is the likely culprit.
