In many cases, I leave wifi on all of the time. Now, I don’t always have my iPhone set to ask me to join networks, but the phone still searches for nearby hotspots. Recently, my foray into a new (non-Favorite) Starbucks prompted me to think of something: wifi as an alternative to geo fencing.
See, my thought is that when the phone picks up a wifi network, it would then include the passbook (or alternative on another platform) for that respective store.
If possible, this would allow people to have access to more stores than the favorite limit currently in place. Further, it may also prolong battery life due to the weaker scanning needed for wifi versus geofencing.
Make sense? Sound looney? In my head it seems like a good idea!
