Some Apple designs never made the cut. They weren’t always the sleek, ubiquitous devices we see today. They went through years of trial and error, some of which are much more bizarre and beautiful than you’d think.
Before Jony Ive, Hartmut Esslinger was the lead industrial designer — an innovator and a creative whiz. In his new book, titled “DESIGN FORWARD: Creative Strategies for Sustainable Change,” Esslinger discusses the designs that Steve Jobs commissioned from him for $2 million in 1981.
