LTE is pretty awesome. If you’ve had the pleasure of tasting the super fast speeds it offers when traveling only to return home and find pokey old HSPA+ (or even, *GASPS*…EDGE), you know how life changing it can be. Today, inhabitants of three more cities will be able to go home and experience those life changing speeds every single night.
Average speeds are “normally” in the ~10-15 Mbps (down) range though often go far higher. Here in our neck of the woods there are many places where we can sail north of 40 Mbps (down) routinely. Though, obviously, your speeds will vary greatly depending on network load, available spectrum in that specific locale, unicorn count in the city as well as many other factors.
Today’s latest additions are all part of AT&T’s 150 million POPs by end of 2012, 250 million by end of 2013 and 300 million by end of 2014.
Live in one of the new markets that just went live? Shoot us an email with your experience so far, perhaps a screenshot of a speedtest even. Also, because of the “newness” of AT&T LTE, problems with things like constant data speeds, coverage and hand-off between towers as well as 3G/4G are to be expected. In the coming months, any issues you may have now will very likely be corrected as AT&T continues building out new LTE networks and tweaking existing markets.
