(Before It's News)

BBC has for sure lagged behind in its Android offerings as against its iOS offerings. The main items to be hit are iPlayer and Media Player in the sections of quality, adaptability and features. However BBC has assured that it will tackle these things very soon. Though it is difficult for improvements to take place simultaneously, David Price, the iPlayer head has assured that Android packages are going to see huge improvements. The main beneficiary is going to be the playback experience where not only the resolution streams will be improved but also the measure of video clarity depending on the size of screen, speed of data and device capabilities.

Today’s update increases support for Jelly Bean 4.2, gives UI a facelift, video over WiFi is improved and brings in BBC Alba. A pre Christmas launch of new video backend is also in the offing. Next year alone will see feature parity with iOS. According to Price, Android devices can have facility of offline playback soon but has given no timeframe. Last but not least the tablet versions will be fine tuned for its apps in all probability very soon.
