At least that is how it looks like based on a new report by Kantar Worldpanel. The decline can be attributed to several reasons and it’s not a direct correlation of iPhone users shifting to Windows Phone.
While there is no doubt that the iPhone is one of the most popular phones in the US, UK and France markets but this report specifically targets the rest of Europe in markets like Italy, Australia and Brazil.
Australia is down 5.4% to 35.9% and Brazil is down 1.6 to 1.6%. This shows some pretty huge decline in popularity levels. At the same time Windows Phone devices have been registering some big gains with Italy at 11.8% and Spain at 3%. While these might not be HUGE gains by themselves, this is reflective of the level of popularity garnered in the recent past.
Some of the reasons attributed to this success are the aggressive price-points of the Windows Phone devices with some low-end-yet-functional models released by Nokia in the recent past. With the users of the other countries facing economic crunches, the report states that this could be the deciding factor while they decide to invest in their next smartphone.
While gains in these countries are not significant enough to really bring out the champagne, the recent onslaught of newer devices with more OEMs will definitely go a long way in bringing this platform to the masses.
