In these modern times of shelf visibility, why is Microsoft sticking to the old thinking of sales only through their own stores? This is certainly affecting their sales.
They have recently launched the most talked about Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8. Both have received a consumer response which is far less than the expected. This is due to the lack of sufficient retail distribution which has an adverse effect on the surface sales. Microsoft has only about 31 stores in the U.S.
According to trade sources sale of 2 million for the Windows 8 and Phone 8 was predicted in the quarter ending in December. But the actual figures are at a disappointing 600,000. This is way below the market potential of the product.
There is less visibility of the product, consumers are not getting enough to see or feel the product, with the price being $499. All combined together is bringing down the sales.
Microsoft has to quickly rethink their sales strategy for this exclusive gadget if they have to revamp the dropping sales figures for their wonderful innovation. Sure they need to have a long term business plan in place!
