President Barack Obama reiterated his calls for new gun control laws in a YouTube video Friday responding to the flood of petitions posted to the White House website in the wake of last week’s deadly massacre in Newtown, Conn.
“In the days since the heartbreaking tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut, hundreds of thousands of you from all fifty states have signed petitions asking us to take serious steps to address the epidemic of gun violence in this country,” says Obama in the opening of the video. “So I just wanted to take a moment to respond and let you know we hear you.”
Obama then jumps into his specific proposals, which he has previously made known through press conferences.
