The recruitment game is changing. Earlier, companies would put out an ad for a job in the newspaper, ask candidates to bring in their documents and certificates, go through the same and offer the candidate the job if he/she suited the profile. Now, companies are turning to social media to hire employees. Most HR professionals believe that the social media space is where candidates are most comfortable and most honest about who they are and what they believe in, so it only makes sense to hire them from here. In continuation of this trend, HR professionals are resorting to ‘games’ to test the candidate’s abilities to perform various tasks and handle stressful situations. Thus, not just the hiring but the selection processes are getting increasingly dependent on social media and technology.
Given the increasing importance of Facebook in the hiring sector, it was only a matter of time before a service cropped up that allowed users to use their Facebook profiles to seek and apply for jobs. MyParichay is a service that does just that. It allows users to use their Facebook network to find ‘connections’ in companies and then ask these connections to refer them for the job at hand. Once a suitable job is found, the user can apply from the same window without having to browse through other websites or connecting his account to other sites.
Given how well MyParichay has tapped into the social media recruitment scene, HT Media’s Shine.com has partnered with them.
This partnership will allow recruiters to tap into the large pool of mid-level and junior hires and also allow the recruiters to the reach out to the personal network of their employees and find a match for the job at hand via a large referral network.
Speaking on this business development, Amit Garg, Business Head, Internet Business, HT Media, says, “We have focused a lot on providing revolutionary recruitment solutions for the past few years, and this quarter, which also saw our candidate database cross the 1 crore mark, we are venturing into a new zone which will make us the first Indian job portal to integrate Facebook hiring solutions with our mainstream offer.”
I think this tie-up is a strong step in a direction that will have major impact on how people are recruited. It is almost like the companies are now coming to the candidates and getting to know them on a personal (virtual) level before taking the hiring process to the next step. The candidates only stand to benefit from such multiple job-seeking avenues but they will now need to be all the more careful about what they update and upload.
