Pinterest could well be the social media platform of 2012. It came, saw and conquered. This site which allows its users to ‘pin’ pictures/ideas/concepts they love is quite a rage, especially among women. In fact, it wouldn’t be wrong to say that women hold the reins when it comes to Pinterest. The platform has received massive funding and the latest buzz is that it drives more e-commerce sales than even Big Daddy (Facebook).
However, the platform has often been criticised for throwing up pictures of homes, holidays and even cupcakes that are way too perfect and pretty to be true in real life. The site is also criticised for setting up unrealistic standards of beauty. In a bid to bridge the gap between the possibly gorgeous and the actually possible, Pinterest has launched ‘The Pinterest Challenge’.
This challenge calls for people to submit the one thing that they want to do only for themselves in 2013! You can say that it is like a resolution board without the ‘I promise’ strings attached. The board has already garnered massive attention with people pinning ideas about their 2013 wishes and desires. Pinterest’s Corporate Communications Manager, Annie Ta had this to say about the challenge, “Pinterest is all about finding inspiration to do things in your day to day life. These goals ranged from things as simple as spending time with family to more complicated things such as building a motorcycle. Whatever it is, we encourage pinners to take the challenge and simply take the time to do one thing from one of their pins this year.”
The idea is much similar to Google’s New Year World Map for Resolutions. This map invited people from all over the world to post their resolutions and declare them loud and clear to the world.
While taking time out to do things you love is a must, we hope that people who pin/post these actually follow up on them. If nothing else, then the likes and comments may just get individuals to seriously pursue their wishes.
Some of the pinned ideas that caught my attention are:
What are your wishes for 2013? And which one was your favourite pin on ‘The Pinterest Challenge’ board?
