The House of Representatives’ Science, Space and Technology committee will hold a hearing in the next few weeks to “examine ways to better identify and address asteroids that pose a potential threat to Earth.”
The announcement comes following Friday’s meteor blast in Russia and a too-close-for-comfort flyby with another asteroid.
Rep. Lamar Smith (R-Texas), chairman of the science committee, called those events “a stark reminder of the need to invest in space science.”
