(Before It's News)

Internet based messaging app provider Nimbuzz has inked a partnership with mobile service provider Aircel to incorporate itself as a Value Added Service (VAS).

Merely days after Facebook extended its hands to Airtel & Reliance, for strategic inclusion of Facebook Messenger as part of incentive package to mobile subscribers Nimbuzz seems to have taken similar initiative.

What does the partnership entitle?

With 67 Million subscribers across India, Aircel is presently the sixth largest mobile service operator. Besides, Aircel, via this partnership recently started offering Nimbuzz via its network to the citizens of Jammu & Kashmir.

This is worth mentioning since the J&K Government heavily regulates the flow of SMS & this is where Aircel & Nimbuz can still offer SMS like functionality via the data network revealed Sundeep Talwar, Aircel’s operations head for J&K, “Jammu & Kashmir is highly regulated market, where SMS services are unavailable; so our focus is on data.”  Evidently, the service provider successfully managed to up its data consumption, “In the last 15 days, after the launch of Nimbuzz, data usage from our users in J&K went up by 25%

Internet based messaging has eclipsed SMS. Owing to the relative ease of usage as well as very low tariffs, these messaging platforms have gained significant traction. However, not all have managed to replicate the success of WhatsApp. Even though Nimbuzz has been a much older platform, the usage of the owners’ phone number as the only login required ensured sign-up was near instant.

Nimbuzz, as a company has bet heavily bet on the Indian sub-continent to further its growth. What else would explain the relocation of its entire Headquarters to India? Additionally Nimbuzz has high hopes of gaining wide-spread acceptance here & seems to be taking steps to ensure its self-set milestones are achieved. What do you think?
