(Before It's News)

Sprint

Some great news out of Sprint today as the carrier has just announced a new program called, “Bring Your Own Sprint Device” . This is how Sprint plans to reduce waste associated with unused or thrown away devices. Sprint is going to allow devices to be re-activated on a their approved MVNO’s (Mobile Virtual Network Operator) list, which basically means, the carriers who piggyback off Sprint’s network may allow Sprint devices. Some of the carriers that may be on this list include, most notably, Boost Mobile and Virgin. So far Sprint has only said that it will allow unused and  deactivated devices to be brought on, but the specific requirements for this has not been announced. Most likely blacklisted devices, like devices that have been reported stolen, will not qualify. After this program goes into full effect this could turn out be a great opportunity for Virgin and Boost Mobile. This would allow them to offer service on premium Sprint devices, like the Note II, while keeping the non-contract, low monthly payment allure many find appealing.

Sprint Galaxy Note II

This is something that I think all carriers should try to implement as it gives its subscribers the ability to get a great device and still be able to use it if they leave for a pre-paid plan on the carriers network. In my opinion, this really shows how much Sprint values its environmental side of the company and how hard it works to keep that side alive. I may end up trying this myself once the program takes full effect as I have one line that’s at the end of its contract, so I will let you know how well it works out. If you have Sprint what do you think about this program and will you take advantage of it?, let me know in the comments below.
