If you’re the type of gamer who likes to get a bit physical, up until the last couple of year, things weren’t going in your favor. The thinner the keys and keyboard overall the better. And let’s not forget about the feature creep. But as of late, good ‘ol mechanical, clicky keyboards are coming back in style and for the feature hounds, improving their featureset with stuff like full backlighting, macros, etc. etc. What was once a very niche market catered to by only a few players is quickly becoming “the” market with more and more manufacturers getting into the game.
Today, Func is proud to announce their own mechanical keyboard, the KB-460. And even though they’ve been in the gaming scene since ’99, they’ve gone through a bit of rebirth of sorts in the last couple of years. So while it may look like a simple slap of keys, there’s actually a lot to like here.
For starters, you’ve got Cherry MX Red switches which aim to strike a perfect balance between that old school click and fast, precise key travel. Also supported is full N-key roll (USB). Each key features its own (customizable) backlight, there’s 128 KB of memory built in and 2x USB 2.0 ports for expanding further. Func’s own “Func Mode” basically allows you to remap key mappings as well as disable the Windows Key. There is support for up to 5 different profiles on the 128 KB of memory and the KB-460 features plug-n-play support meaning you’re good to go no matter what machine you’re on. (Personalizing keyboard key mappings requires software installation.)
Look for the KB-460 to hit retail shelves in the coming weeks for $129.99. Also to look forward to in the coming weeks: A Gadgetsteria hands-on review of the KB-460 as one is in route. Stay tuned.
