Money in its physical form will soon be a rarity. A new gesture recognition technology has enabled users to just wave wallets at computer screens to carry out payment processes. Seemove is an effort from London startup, Seeper.
This technology, strictly speaking form an e-wallet point of view, is a little cumbersome when compared with Google wallet or any other service that integrates your handheld with you bank account for easy and quick withdrawal of money.
India is a lucrative market for probably every kind of business. Indians are gradually coming out of their shell and started to spend money, a lot of which happens online. The e-commerce market in India is still a little far from mature but the players that exist have shown deep commitment and integrity to deliver a good experience. A number of e-wallet services have been launched, some on the e-commerce side and some independent. IRCTC came out with an e-wallet option for its users. Ecommerce giants are setting up their own payment gateways that would take care of electronic transfer of money, a record of which can be kept at the seller’s side.
Wave and gesture technology already exists in the market, Kinect (Xbox 360) is an example; but this technology one ups its precursor because it also has the ability to recognize objects. The implication would be immense if the technology is really as usable as the developers claim, namely sign language, gaming, healthcare and loads others. This technology would be well received in the western countries for sure (where the mindset of people towards technology regarding the transaction of money is relatively more open), but India might be a problem for reasons more than one.
The technology apart from the wallet waving is pretty interesting. It could one day lead to IronMan like labs, where gesture controls a lot of the interactive response along with voice. Let us hope that someday is materialized.
