The launch of Moto G may just be one the biggest launches of a smartphone in recent times. Flipkart called it a huge success and it was if you prefer to neglect the disappointment of users who could not get their hands on the phone due to limited stocks. There were also shipping delays for the 16 GB variant. All this shows that Flipkart and Motorola Mobility have both grossly underestimated the demand for this phone. Currently the 8 GB version is available but the 16 GB version needs to be booked and delivery time for this would range between 10-20 days.
Moto G launched exclusively on Flipkart but Snapdeal has also started pre-order bookings for the phone. Flipkart announced that within a few hours of launch both 8 GB and 16GB variants had sold out. More stock was added the next day and in this case also the 16 GB version sold out quickly.
According to a PTI report, about 20,000 Moto G units were sold on Flipkart within hours of the launch on February 6. ”It is extremely overwhelming. We were surprised. We did not expect this kind of response. It was more than the traffic on peak Diwali rush. Our site also went down for a couple of minutes on February 6th, the day of launch, due to traffic,” Flipkart co-founder and CEO Sachin Bansal told PTI.
Traffic to Flipkart was twice of what it sees on other days and 67 per cent of it was driven just by Moto G.”Our page views increased by 100 per cent during the launch and Moto G page saw a million page views on February 6″, added Bansal. Motorola is rumoured to launch Moto X in India somewhere around June. However, Bansal stated that both the companies would like to study the Moto G sale and then decide about future possibilities.
