Google has appointed its top executive Susasn Wojcicki to run its video sharing site YouTube. Wojcicki, who served as Google’s senior vice-president of ads and commerce, will now be YouTube’s Senior Vice President.
She is one of Google’s first employees and has served as vice president of advertising and commerce for Google since 1998. Wojcicki will replace Salar Kamangar who is expected to take over another role at Google, as per
Re/Code.
“Like Salar, Susan has a healthy disregard for the impossible and is excited about improving YouTube in ways that people will love,” Google CEO Larry Page said in the statement. Wojcicki also confirmed her appointment via an
official tweet.
Wojcicki’s key roles at Google in the past have been managing its entire ad and sales business, as well as developing AdSense. Hence, it is predicted that she will help on boosting YouTube’s ad revenue. Google bought YouTube in 2006 for about US$1.6 billion. Since then it has snowballed from a casual video sharing site to a giant media hub. The number one video sharing site generated $1.08 billion in domestic ad revenue last year when it also
announced that it uploads over 100 hours of videos per minute.
