Opera Software makes popular browsers for desktop as well as mobile. Their mobile browsers are very popular due to their ability compress data. The company introduced Opera Turbo as a new feature in Opera 10 back in 2009. The feature enabled you to compress web traffic to speed up web browsing.
Last year, the company announced Opera Max which reduces your data consumption of not only browsers but also on almost all the Android apps. This is a great application for all those users who are on a budget data plan. The app began closed beta testing in December of last year to a limited number of Android beta testers. Today, Opera has announced that the pre-registration public beta is available to Android users only in the US and Western Europe. No update about a global rollout was provided by Opera.
Opera claims thta it can reduce up to 50 percent of your mobile data usage by compressing video, images, and text for most non-encrypted Android apps. It even compresses videos from Instagram and Vine. The end purpose is not just to reduce data usage but, consequentially, to also maximize users’ limited data plans.
Opera Max sets up a VPN on an Android device which measures all data usage then sends all requests to Opera’s compression servers. It also knows when the device is set to Wi-Fi mode and automatically pauses itself.
Last month Google bought 50% data compression to Chrome browser for iOS and Android. Opera Mobile Store recently crosses 100 million users across the world. Last year, the mobile browser took the No.2 spot in India with 28.6% market share.
