Just about 6 months ago, we posted to this blog Software-Defined Infrastructure: Real or Not? We Think “Real”, But Be Prepared.
Now, a just published research report by Enterprise Management Associates concludes, “It is safe to predict that the software-defined data center (SDDC) will become one of the dominating trends in enterprise IT in 2014.” (The terms SDI and SDDC are interchangeable.)
Their conclusion gives us a view into the future of computing at enterprises from large to small and is based on a survey of selected representatives from 235 companies.
Software defined infrastructure (or SDDC) is another layer of abstraction meaning that now it is possible to magically create data centers with keystrokes and mouse clicks (no lifting servers and messing with cables required.) To accomplish this requires automation and orchestration that spans virtualization, cloud platforms, networking and storage across the enterprise. (Our ConVirt Enterprise Cloud does that.)
We’re happy that we can share a large portion of the report with you in a 25-page summary. It’s good stuff. Go here to have a look.
