Flappy Bird is a free Android sidescroller game that has been making waves in Google Play recently since its January 30 launch. It has been out since last year in iOS but I only found out about this game through word-of-mouth. It instantly got me hooked just by looking at the gameplay.
Read below to see why people are getting crazy over this 8-bit bird.
Loved: The Download size
With a download package of less than a megabyte, the game is instantly accessed and played without a long waiting time. You can easily delete the game without guilt, and download it again if you start feeling the withdrawal symptoms from tapping the screen.
Loved/Hated: The Game Controls
The game control system is similar to Jetpack Joyride. Tap the screen to make the bird flap its wings and that’s it. That’s all the game can feature (right now), and its simplicity is either loved or hated by its users simple because of the sensitivity and the lack of other controls. Overall, this is one of the main reasons why I personally love this game – one simple function that is challenging to master.
Loved/Hated: The Reward and Punishment system
The goal of the game is to avoid the pipes while the screen moves forward, forcing you to tap with precision so you can avoid as much pipes as possible. Hitting a pipe leaves you with the ‘Game Over’ screen, and it’s up to you if you want to try again, or just call it a day. Each pipe gives you 1 point, and your highest score is recorded for reference for your next try. There’s a ranking system tied up with Google accounts if you want to see the scoreboard with other players.
Loved: The 8-bit Nostalgia
Flappy Bird is presented with 8-bit nostalgic graphics that literally reminds you of arcade retro games. The pipes alone remind of you of Super Mario, along with the background that changes with a day and night time scenery.
Loved: The Price of the Game
This Android game is free, and can be played in various ways with your friends, or even in your lunchtime breaks in work. The fun it brings can also be compared to the frustration you might develop, so try to invest in gadget protection just in case your impulsiveness makes you throw your gadget away.
