Motorola might be working on an upgraded version of its popular Moto G Android phone. Moto G is a budget Android phone which has some really great specs. It is probably the only phone in the segment which delivers (or over delivers) when it comes to pricing.
Conceived and built for the emerging market, it has been quite a hit in Latin America and India. For the India launch, Motorola had tied up with Flipkart to sell the phone exclusively on the ecommerce website. This seems to be working for them as Magnus Ahlqvist, Motorola VP for EMEA and APAC has said that Moto G’s sales were the highest in its entire history in India.
Given the positive reactions that the phone has been getting, it makes complete sense for Motorola to build an upgraded version. According to popular leaksters, Evleaks the phone will supposedly be called the Moto G Forte and will be more durable than the previous version. There’s not much detail besides that and the image of the phone that has been leaked. The image shows that the phone will be similar in general design to Moto G but the buttons look clunkier and the phone does give an impression of being more rugged than its predecessor.
However, we have to treat this with some scepticism since the image of the phone seems similar to the Moto G being fitted with a rugged cover which are available online. Evleaks has built up a certain credibility by virtue of having leaked some pretty important news such as Nokia X (Normandy). According to the tweet put up by @EvleaksEs, the phone is being targeted towards Latin America.
In related news, Motorola is also in talks with various retailers in India to figure out how they can sell their devices to a larger slice of the Indian market. While the exclusive partnership with Flipkart has done them good, it remains to be seen if the exclusivity is viable when faced with strong demand.
