Gionee has launched Elife S5.5, that is touted as world’s slimmest phone in India for a price of Rs 22,999. The phone which was announced at Mobile World Congress in February, will be available in India from mid-April. Elife S5.5 has a thickness of 5.5m and weighs 130g and boasts a 5-inch full HD Super AMOLED display.
The single-SIM smartphone that runs the company’s Amigo UI is powered Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. It features a 5-inch Super AMOLED (1080×1920 pixels) display with a pixel density of 441ppi. The Elife S5.5 is powered by a 1.7GHz octa-core CPU coupled with 2GB of RAM. In terms of camera the phone has a 13 megapixel rear camera and a 5 megapixel 95 degree ultra-wide angle front-facing camera. Gionee S5.5 comes with 16GB internal storage and doesn’t include a microSD card slot.
Available in Black, White, Blue, Pink, and Purple, the device has a 2300 mAH battery, which the company said will reach up to 2450 mAH with the next upgrade. On the connectivity front supports 3G, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Wi-Fi Direct, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS and USB OTG. It also supports 3G network working in six different bands and the company also plans to churn out an LTE version of the device by June.
The Chinese handset maker revealed that the company had shipped 24 million phones in 2013 out of which 1 million phones were shipped to the Indian market. It has set a target of shipping 35 million units globally and 6 million phones in India, in 2014. Oppo is another Chinese smartphone maker which recently launched Find 7 with a 50MP camera. Xiaomi is another Chinese company that is going to set up shop in India soon.
