WASHINGTON – Statement by Jason Oxman, CEO of the Electronic Transactions Association (ETA), the global trade association representing the payments technology world, regarding passage of the Cybersecurity Information Sharing Act in the U.S. Senate.

“The Electronic Transactions Association applauds the U.S. Senate for passing the Cybersecurity Information Sharing Act (CISA). The need for business and the federal government to share information about cyber threats is critical because cyber attacks against private industry and the U.S. government are growing in frequency and complexity.

Prior to CISA’s passage, certain laws prohibited ETA members from sharing such information with the federal government. CISA addresses this problem by creating a voluntary program that allows companies to share limited information about cyber threats with the government. Sharing information about cyber threats speeds up industry detection, mitigation, and response time.

CISA protects privacy and civil liberties while strengthening security and resilience against cyber attacks. We urge the House and Senate to move quickly to send a bill to the President.”
