The Wocket Biometric Smart Wallet Review
Disclaimer: I received a free #WocketWallet product for my post! These views are my own and were not
at all influenced by the party who gave me this opportunity..
You are walking along the sidewalk in a busy city and, unknown to you, your credit card info gets stolen! While this hasn’t happened to me, it has happened to some others I know. There are devices thieves use to scan and steal your card info and identity as they pass you, and I want to share a device you can own to block them.
I received a first generation Wocket Wallet to test out (the second generation is coming shortly.) It is a biometric smart wallet that stores the information from all your cards securely inside so outsiders cannot take it, whether by skimming your cards or by physically stealing your wallet. While I may not have personally dealt with theft in the past, I always say it is better to be protected. If you live in a busy city, this is even more important! My Wocket Wallet will definitely come in handy for my upcoming Las Vegas convention trip.
The Wocket Wallet is a unique piece of technology because, unlike other similar devices, you do not need to connect it with a smartphone, other apps, or the internet. It works all on its own. Biometric VoiceMatch protection gives you added security.
The wallet stores your card information inside until you are ready to use the card. You can store credit, debit, loyalty and other miscellaneous cards inside too (like gift cards.) You can even store your driver’s license by swiping it, but this is not recommended for regular use as it will not display your photo. Still carry your ID. As for cash? There is a little pocket on the side to slip in your bills.
So how secure is the Wocket Wallet, really? Security always makes me a little nervous, even on devices meant to protect, so I did some research. With the Wocket, your information will not just be floating around out somewhere in the universe. It is stored securely on a tamper-proof encrypted chip protected by your voiceprint. This means if someone were to steal your actual Wocket Wallet (or your purse with it inside), the wallet would be pretty much useless to anyone who does not have your voice, besides any cash tucked in the outside pouch. If you would rather, you can protect your wallet simply with a pin, but your goal is security so I recommend VoiceMatch.
Each card you enter into your Ewallet will be stored inside digitally and ready for when you need to use it. For credit and debit transactions, you can slide out and swipe the WocketCard. The specific card information you requested will be available on that card and erase when you place the card back into the wallet (just in case someone tries to pull the card back out and use it.) This means it’s nearly impossible for someone to digitally skim your cards.
My biggest question was, “What do you do about presenting your name and signature as proof of identity to match your ID?” Your name and signature will actually be stored inside the wallet to be shown to the cashier when needed. Will all stores accept this? I have not had my WocketSmartWallet long enough to test out our local stores for this, but there should not be an issue at most. Currently 80% of businesses accept the Wocket Wallet. We were able to use ours so far at the grocery store, Target, and some other places, and only one place would not go through. Some POS systems are still upgrading to the latest technology with the features to accept the WocketCard.
Besides regular swiped payments, the Wocket also allows you to pay with QR codes, barcodes, and bluetooth (coming soon.)
I love that all of this information and security is packed away in a lightweight, thin wallet. Between all the credit, debit, and gift cards we have, then the loyalty cards on top of that, it is so easy for the average wallet to become really bulky…and look funny bulging out your pocket or turning your purse into a heavy-weight weapon. This slides right into pockets stealthily and does not take up too much space so you have room for other things you need in your purse (chapstick, water bottles, toy cars, pinecones…the typical mom-purse essentials.)
Personally, I am terrible at keeping things charged up, so I was happy to read the WocketWallet should stay charged for 6 months before you need to charge again!
Picky on design? You can interchange accessories (available soon.)
Have you or someone you love been through a theft? This product would make a great gift for you (you deserve it!), a family member, or a friend! You know…holiday shopping season is fast approaching.
