Finding a consistent understanding of the world is all about keeping cocks and carrots apart. Conflating them leads to contradiction, like cladistics and Higgs particle-ism.
Consistently keeping cocks and carrots apart leads to the conclusion that the world is impossible to understand, because it (the world) is impossible to classify consistently. The problem is thus not primarily to understand the world, but to classify it, because it is impossible to find a consistent classification of the world (as Bertrand Russell demonstrated with Russell’s paradox).
This fact does not mean that the world is impossible, but just that it is impossible to understand. Not everything is thus possible, for example to understand the world.
