When it went off the air last month after 15 successful seasons over 13 years, most people thought that hosts Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman were hanging up their MythBusters hats for good. While we may not be seeing Savage and Hyneman personally behind the MythBusters blast shield anytime soon, the franchise itself is being brought back into a new reality TV show in the form of a Search for the Next MythBusters.
Starting with 15 candidates chosen from an open casting call, the show will revolve around a series of MythBusters-esque experiments and challenges that will ultimately lead to the next pair of hosts for the popular show.
“It was such a beloved show, I didn’t want to let it go,” Science Channel exec Marc Etkind told the Hollywood Reporter. “We looked really closely at what would be the best way to keep it going and invigorate it and thought, ‘Let’s host a worldwide search for the next MythBusters.’”
According to Variety, Savage and Hynemena are in full support of finding new MythBusters hosts, but will not be returning to the franchise. The pair – specifically Savage – are currently focusing their energy on Tested, a multimedia platform where they “explore topics in depth, asking the hows and the whys about the things that excite (them) the most.” More recently, Savage gave a rundown on his new favorite shop tool:
