Updating Passwords of Belkin Router

Now of days’ internet has become the most important part of our daily life. And when we talk about internet, these networking devices have grown much more familiar i.e. the router. Most of it generally uses the identical IP (Internet Protocol) number, 192.168.2.1, which is the most common one and is used for some of the basic reasons.

Understanding 192.168.2.1

It is the default Internet Protocol (IP) address which can be used on almost all the home based broadband routers. This IP was formerly used in Linksys, however later on other several devices employed this address and began using it. Thus it is the usual IP address for almost all the routers; however it is not important that every router should have the same. One of the biggest reasons almost all the companies set this as their IP address, as it gives them the ease to develop a standard computing environment and also does not requires the first time users to put in much effort for accessing the network or connecting to the routers.

Private IP address

Every website, computer or a router have their own private IP address. It is the IP address with which the PC distinguishes the internet connection or a network. For your home computer system to identify that it is accessing the private network and is not getting connected to public, a specific listing numbers of opted. These listings can be used for private use let’s say for your home, agency or offices. These listings should not be used for public websites or networks.

The last portion begins with 192.168.0.0 and resembles to 192.168.2.1 router address. The reason why 192.168.2.1 was used is because it consists of very less number in this special series of IP address. The IP address assigned to your computer is given by the network router you are using and will be a lot similar. It must be anything like 192.168.1.x (where x is a number between 2 & 255).One of the best things about choosing this IP address is it can be memorised easily for different number of routers. Thus it can be applied for your home or office router, or even for the routers placed with your friends and family. The choice of this IP address is quite a favourable one and can be used for successful configuration with other networks.

How are the IP addresses alike?

192.168.2.1 does the same thing as 192.168.01, 192.168.1.1 and several other private IP addresses. 192.168.2.1  is a private IPv4 network address which is also known as the default IP address for the home network, so it cannot be employed to connect to the home network router from outside of the home network.

Using, 192.168.2.1, is one of the simplest things to do and configure the router at your home. For setting this, you simply need to open your browser and put this in the search bar. Following this a configuration or control page will come up; however the appearance might differ from one manufacturer to another. You might also be required to add username and password which is important for the configuration of your router. If in case you are not able to connect to the network, check your internet connection and ensure if it is working properly. Also while making changes, ensure to go through the complete manual and get information about the router.

How to find your routers IP?

The simplest ways to find your IP address of your router is by opening the command prompt in your windows PC and enter the command ipconfig in the command prompt. Find the Default Gateway entry written in the result come by typing the command and in most cases Default Gateway entry represents your router’s IP 

As the 192.168.2.1 private IP address is same for almost every other router exist on this planet and due to this same IP address it becomes important to secure yourself from unwanted users. The easy way to do so is by updating the default username and password of your router. So that no one can access the router and can make changes without your permission. Below is a step by step guide which shows how to update password of Belkin router. However, the procedure is almost same for every other it is just the notation for setting which differs.

  1. First start your web browser and type in the address http://192.168.2.1/.
  2. It will come up with the configuration page of your router. Log into your router, by default the password is blank and username as admin and just click Submit.
  3. Search Connection Type under the Internet WAN menu and click on it.
  4. Next select the PPPoA and then click on Next.
  5. From here you can update or modify your password in the Password field.

At last click on to Apply Change button and your password has now been changed successfully.
