What can I say? Some days you just want to go and hide. Yesterday was one of those days. Here is what happened.
A bit of malware got imbedded in my WordPress theme. A few readers received warnings and let me know but such warnings were intermittent and I could not duplicate them myself. So I kept digging and saw that my reader stats were less than half of normal. Ouch . . . especially when I had such a great article on the 44 Really Cool Uses of Paracord for Survival.
Anyway, I won’t bore you with the ugly details but for about ten hours Backdoor Survival was blacklisted at Google. If you own a website, you know that is bad. Fast forward and I was able to clean up the problem, lock down my site, and further, signed up with GeoTrust to monitor my site for suspicious activity. That is not a free service but well worth it to prevent my site from getting social diseases.
As of about 6PM Pacific last night, my site has been certified clean by both Google and GeoTrust. And that is good. I must compliment Google for being very – no extremely – prompt in doing a new review of my site and removing the bad guy black mark within a couple of hours of my request.
So what is the GeoTrust seal mean? The GeoTrust seal means that a website has been GeoTrust certified as safe to browse and safe to access and furthermore, that it is malware and virus free. You can look for this seal on the right hand side of all of the pages on this site and if there is some funny business going on, it will alert you that things are not so safe at the moment. Fingers crossed that will never happen again.
I do not have much else to say about the matter other than thank you for hanging in there with me! Oh – and one more thing. My thanks to the team at my web host, ParcomWeb for working so closely with me to find a solution. Thanks guys (and gals)!
Enjoy your next adventure through common sense and thoughtful preparation!
Gaye

From the Bargain Bin: One of my dear friends wanted to know what I recommended in the way of cast iron. This one’s for you!
Lodge Logic 12-Inch Pre-Seasoned Skillet: This purchase changed the way I cook. I se my cast iron cookware for everything from salmon, to bacon and eggs, to biscuits. For under $20, there is no excuse not to own this survival basic. Don’t forget the Lodge Set of 2 Pan Scrapers, a must have for cleaning those food bits from your cast iron cookware.
Lodge Dutch Oven/Camp Stove: I originally purchased this Dutch oven because it was so darn cute. But over time, I have learned to love it for its versatility. Remember, a camp stove is designed so that you can bake with it by arranging charcoal on top of the lid as well as underneath the Dutch Oven itself.
Ove’ Gloves Hot Surface Handler: I cannot say enough about these hand and arm protectors. I have permanent scars from hitting my arm on the rack of my oven. I can only imagine what I would look like if I did not use these with my cast iron cookware. Forget the colorful silicon hot pads. These are 1000 times better!
Four Silicone Brushes: I call these”mop thingies”. Great for layering a nice thin coat of oil on your cast iron pans.
Lodge 5-Quart Double Dutch Oven and Casserole with Skillet Cover: This is another cool piece. This Dutch Oven does not have legs and is designed for indoor use – but it can be used outdoors too. Just don’t forget the Ove Gloves.
Lodge Logic Pre-Seasoned 15 Inch Cast-Iron Skillet: Similar to the 12” skillet only bigger. Actually, quite huge (and yes, I finally have one!).
