I want you to take a look at this pine tree and guess how old it is. The answer is over 20 years old. Now most 20 year old pine trees can be over 20 feet tall and between 6 and 8 inches in diameter at the base. provided they have not been molested by disease, deer, porcupines, fire, snow and wind. This guy is about an inch and a half at the base and about eight feet tall. It has been attack by porcupines, deer rubbing their antlers on it, an ice storm and plenty of snow. It started out right after fire storm of 1991. The fire was devastating to Spokane County in Washington state. But it gave birth to this little jack pine. I never thought it would make it passed it’s first year because after the fire we still had a drought to contend with. The brush grew quickly and shaded the little pine. It was like the cloud that covered the Israelite’s wondering in the wilderness. The brush also hid it from the deer so they could not rub their antlers on it. It grew crooked because it tried to find the light and when it got tall enough the deer and the porcupines started to attack it. So what you see in the picture is this Jack pine that has out lived bigger pines that couldn’t bend with the wind, that allowed the porcupines to gnaw all around the tree and kill the tree and could not stand up to the deer rubbings. In the coming years we need to be like this ugly, scrawny little pine tree. We need to be flexible to bend with the wind and have the determination and faith in God to carry on because Christ has conquered death and He has RISEN and whats even better is HE IS COMING BACK. We don’t have to know why we survive even though we are bent and scared up from life, We just have to believe that Christ is the Son of God and He died on the cross so that we might live. For whatever day you celebrate His resurrection , have a reflective and wonderful Easter. Bob & Carol
