Today I share a very special interview and book giveaway in the Backdoor Survival Summer Book Festival. Joe Nobody is back one more time this week to share his personal thoughts on a number of his books. Plus, he is providing one of my readers with a free copy of his book Holding Their Own IV: The Ascent.
Before we begin, I would like to announce the winner of last week’s giveaway.
“Jannie” has won a copy of Apocalypse Drift. Congratulations! I have contacted you by email with instructions for claiming your book. Here is how Jannie answered the question “To what extent does your family participate in your personal preparedness efforts?”
Not at all. I’m on my own on this one. Even my friends think it’s nuts. But I will persevere!! Printed out my lists last night and am organizing my folders and “to do” lists today. Will start shopping next week.
Be sure to check out the details of this week’s giveaway below.
MORE FROM JOE NOBODY!
As a prolific writer in the survival and prepping niche (both non-fiction and fiction), what is your own personal favorite and why?
I think this is the most difficult question anyone has ever asked me as a writer, and I really don’t have a favorite. I have a view of each book and what its strengths and weaknesses are, but to name a single favorite title is impossible. Here’s a few thoughts on each manuscript:
Home Schooled Shootist: Contains the most information of any book I’ve written. Packed with more tips, tricks and methods than any other. It also required the most time to write.
TEOTWAWKI Tuxedo: For beginning preppers, important info. In some respects, I regret the title. If I had named this book “The Ultimate Bug-out Kit,” I think it would have resonated with more folks. In reality, that’s what the book is about.
Holding Your Ground – Preparing for Defense: I’m so proud of HYG. Every day, dozens of folks pick up a copy and realize the importance of security and defense in their preps. Not some Rambo, shoot-em-up stuff, but commonsense defensive measures should it all fall apart. Of all my books, this one did the best job of meeting my goal of educating people. When I see review after review saying that “I’m looking at defensive preparations in an entirely new light,” it is very gratifying.
Without Rule of Law: My most misunderstood title. Folks either hate it or love it. If I knew the end of days was next week, and I had time to implement the lessons/skills/equipment contained in a single Joe Nobody book, this would be the one.
Apocalypse Drift: Most folks don’t realize this, but I intentionally wrote Drift to be family friendly. I wanted to create prepper fiction that a parent could appreciate and then pass along to a 12 – 18 year old adolescent who would enjoy it as well. It was extremely difficult for me to write with this restriction. An example would be the lack of foul language. I’ve never been in a life and death, shooting situation, where foul language didn’t occur from someone. For the younger readers, I intentionally kept it squeaky clean and some readers have commented that it wasn’t realistic dialogue for this very reason. Other folks expected a Bishop and Terri type work, but the intent of this novel was completely different.
The Holding Their Own Series… What can you say about our protagonists Bishop and Terri? For those of you who are not familiar with this unfolding narrative, it chronicles the story of a young couple during a financial collapse of the United States. Of the series:
HTO I – Contains the most prepper tips and tricks, especially concerning security and travel.
HTO II – My favorite Bishop book. I unleash the tiger inside of our protagonist in this story. It’s as close to super-hero as I write, but packed with great action.
HTO III – Is the most fun to read. Bishop, in his element, with a mission.
HTO IV – Right when things are looking up… The best story/plot I’ve written.
HTO V – I almost named this book Terri’s Song. It’s her book much like HTO II belongs to Bishop.
I have agreed, in writing, to pen one more Bishop and Terri novel. That doesn’t mean I’ll end the series… there will probably be a few more in 2014.
Thank you for letting me tell your readers about my books and thoughts, and the best of luck to everyone.
Joe

THE FINAL WORD
If you have not taken the time to read survival fiction, I challenge you to pick up a book and give it a try. I can tell you from personal experience that reading survival fiction will kick your critical thinking into high gear as you come up with your own solutions to the situations faced by the characters.
Enjoy your next adventure through common sense and thoughtful preparation!

Spotlight Item: Holding Their Own IV: The Ascent
The president is dead and the military divided, two powerful armies aligned to reignite a bloody, civil war. Millions struggle and starve, waiting for the government to reform and initiate a recovery. Bishop and Terri have a simple plan – they want to retreat to an isolated strip of West Texas desert and prepare for the expansion of their family. It’s not meant to be. The vacuum of leadership ignites an internal struggle that pulls the couple into the middle of a fast paced, dangerous adventure as powerful, desperate men fight to control what’s left of the United States.
Book four of Joe Nobody’s popular series, Holding Their Own, takes the reader on an adventure through a world trying to recover and rebuild after a complete collapse of society. The post-apocalyptic landscape is dangerous, unpredictable and often requires creative solutions just to survive. Join Bishop, Terri and their friends as The Ascent begins.
