There are a number of methods available that will allow you to create your own thriving, healthy organic garden. You can build your garden as soon as you do some basic fundamental research.
Put down sod correctly. Before laying sod, you have to make sure the soil is accurately prepared. Take out any weeds, then mix up the soil into a tilth that is fine. Lightly, but firmly compress the soil, making certain it is flat. You then will want to thoroughly wet the soil. Stagger your sod so that each joint offsets from joints in adjacent rows. After the sod has been flattened to an even surface, you can use soil to fill any remaining gaps. Water the sod each day for two weeks so it will become well-rooted and ready for foot traffic.
Healthy Soil
The first thing you can do to avoid pests is to start with healthy soil in your garden. Healthy soil encourages vigorous plant growth and makes your garden more resistant to common diseases and insects. To boost your garden’s prospects of giving you the healthiest possible plants, make sure you begin with premium soil devoid of salt-accumulating chemicals.
If you have any mildew on the plants, do not go out and buy anything. Plain water with a bit of liquid soap and baking soda will do the trick. Once a week, spray this solution on your plants and your mildew should disappear in no time. Baking soda won’t harm your plants, and takes care of the mildew efficiently and gently.
Seeds should be soaked in a dark area overnight. Put a few seeds in a small container and fill it near to the top with water. This lets water soak into the seeds, giving them an extra boost of hydration when they start growing. This will also give your seeds a much better chance to survive and mature.
Protect your delicate deciduous shrubs from harsh elements. If you’ve got tender shrubs which are potted, you need to protect them from cold weather. Connect the tops, and then place a sheet over the top of the wigwam. This method is preferred to wrapping a plant in plastic, since it promotes circulation and prevents rotting.
Knee Pads
If your garden contains lots of short plants, purchase some horticulture knee pads. Without pads, you may have pain in your knees from spending too much time kneeling on the hard ground. A set of quality knee pads designed for gardening can be a world of relief for your central leg joints.
Put money into a quality wheelbarrow and kneeling stool if you plan to do garden work often. Gardening can be very tough on the knees as you spend much time leaning near the ground, so a portable stool can make all the difference to your comfort. You often need to move large objects from place to place, so it’s a good idea to have a sturdy, well-balanced wheelbarrow.
Pick a plant that will be a focal point. You need a focal point that can catch your eye in garden design. It can be anything, but oftentimes a plant that stands out from its neighbors will do the trick.
When you water your garden, do it with care. Use a type of soaker hose so that you don’t need to do individual waterings with the hose nozzle, or be refilling a watering can constantly. Keep the water running slowly so it doesn’t spray up onto the plants’ leaves. You can take care of other tasks or just relax while your plants are automatically watered for an hour or so.
Increase the worth of your investment. When you landscape, you can get one of the highest returns. Some plants can even raise your home value about 20%. Select plants and shrubs that won’t require a lot of ongoing maintenance and will adapt well to your climate.
In an organic garden, ruffle any seedlings with a piece of cardboard, or even your hand, a couple times each day. This probably sounds like an odd recommendation, but research has shown that this technique encourages more plant growth, than no petting at all.
A garden can be planted by anybody. However, those who have taken time to do research will gain the most from their crops. Simply follow this handy organic advice.
