Oklahoma City (KOKH) — A British woman was shocked to find a bag of bananas infested with spiders.
According to the Bristol Post, Maria Layton, 43 of Bristol, says the bananas were purchased from Tesco. Layton says her husband had purchased the bananas the day before and noticed the insects when she ripped the bag open to give one to her daughter.
“Siri asked for a banana. The first banana had a funny bit on it, so I got another one for her and that was when I found the massive spider cocoon.” Layton said.
Layton says she then saw a spider web on the other bananas. The insects, identified as a Brazilian Wandering Spider, are considered among the world’s deadliest.
Layton then contacted Tesco who had no comment.
Wandering spiders are so-called because they wander the jungle floor at night. During the day they hide inside banana plants hence the nickname “banana spider”. The venom of the spider can cause a man to have an erection for four hours and it is being studied for use in erectile dysfunction treatments.
