(N.Morgan)  These 7 survival tricks are hacks everyone should know. You won’t need any special equipment for these ideas, which could save your life. This article will show you how to use a cereal box to cook, create an oil lantern with items you already have and a way to use nature to keep mosquitoes away.

Perfect for emergency situations, power shortages or just for keen campers.

These basic survival tips are something every one should familiarize themselves with and learn. Even if you are not into hiking or backpacking to the survival scene, there are many scenarios in which this information could save your life. Earthquakes, plane crashes, cars breaking down in the middle of nowhere, and other unavoidable disasters happen all the time, here’s how you can exponentially increase your chance of surviving.

To be able to utilize a needle as a compass, you need to magnetize it. To magnetize the needle or razor blade in the field you can tap it, rub it, or use a magnet.

This can be accomplished by following the directions below.

1. TAP: Stick the sharp end into a block of wood and tap the free end. Tap 50 times to magnetize.

2. RUB: rubbing it against your hair, fabric, some animal fur, or silk.  Hold the sharp end of the needle and rub just the eye of the needle 50 to 100 times against the material.

3.  MAGNET: This is the best.  So keep a magnet on you!  Rub the magnet 20 to 30 times against the needle or blade, going only in one direction.

Suspension in water:

Lay the needle on leaf or cork.

Don’t allow wind to affect the leaf.

The wind-free possibility:

Tie a thin bit of cotton thread to the eye in the center of the razor blade, and hang the blade inside a jar or bottle where the wind will not reach it. Make sure it is hanging freely, and it will line up north-south.

Marking The North End Of The Needle

You’ll have to use something like the sun, moon, stars, geography, etc. to find north, south, east, and west. Once you have that, mark your compass needle with a pen, pencil, marker, or a scratch to show which side is pointing to the north.

The video below gives more ingenious hacks for your ultimate survival.

  • “3. MAGNET: This is the best. So keep a magnet on you”

Why not just keep a compass on you? If I forget my compass, I probably forgot my magnet. /smh

  • Hello Angle#3(prelim),

Charlie here. I thought the guy was going to say about the mosquito trick that you can now catch and have “flavored” mosquitoes to go with your BBQ.

So I was a little disappointed.

    Signed,

Charlie (if you are lost and mention “doughnuts” Charlie will find his way out. Guaranteed!)
