In this video, Joe Alton, MD, aka Dr. Bones, discusses the issue of allergies, their history, and how an allergy develops in the body. If you told a physician in 1900 that you had an allergy, he/she wouldn’t recognize the word; the reaction was first described as an “allergy” around 1914. Dr. Alton takes you through what happens in the body’s immune system when it is exposed to an allergy-causing substance, also known as an allergen.
