Bankers Delighted by Shen Yun’s Spirituality and Diversity
CHICAGO—“It was a great show! Very diverse,” said Claudio Montoya. The Associated Bank Vice-President joined the highly enthusiastic audience at the Civic Opera House Saturday evening, April 21. Shen Yun Performing Arts International Company continues to amaze Chicagoans, presenting the fourth of five performances this season in the Windy City.
With him was work colleague, Branch Manager Juan Carlos Cailan who agreed and said, “I was very impressed! Very nice, very nice show.”
For Mr. Montoya, the sound of the music, the vibrant colors, and the depth of the performances struck him the moment the curtain lifted. He said, “I was very surprised and delighted with the show. I learned a lot from the Chinese culture. I didn’t know it was so diverse.”
At the heart of a Shen Yun performance is classical Chinese dance, both one of the most comprehensive and hardest dance systems to master in the world, according to the company’s website.
For Mr. Montoya, seeing classical Chinese culture presented through Shen Yun was a moving experience. He said, “The dancing and the techniques were amazing! The history, learning a lot of the history through the dancing. I didn’t expect it, but again, that diversity.”
He was surprised by the spiritual aspects of classical Chinese he experienced through the performances. “From the show—it’s very courageous, it’s very peaceful and basically unifies people that’s why I say [it’s] very spiritual.”
Mr. Cailan added, “I think the culture is really rich and really amazing, I was really impressed with the whole show.”
The resounding voices of bel canto soloists are an integral part of Shen Yun performances, and their impassioned songs give voice to hopes that have shaped Chinese culture for centuries.
Mr. Montoya was touched by the deeper meanings he experienced through the songs. “I liked the way they sang—it has a message. The singers—that was impressive, I think it was very surprising.”
Mr. Cailan agreed and said, “Very beautiful songs. I liked one of the songs that talked about what the Creator wanted. I mean it just stuck in my head. Very beautiful, very beautiful songs.
Mr. Montoya said he would recommend Shen Yun to his friends and colleagues. “To come here and experience it. Every year it’s a different show. I [will] try to make it every year as well and invite more people.”
Mr. Cailan concluded by saying he would take with him a lasting impression of the performances. “How the good is always going to win. It was a beautiful message—to be a better person to fight for your passion and to follow your heart. I was very impressed, very nice, very nice show.”
